"And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth "You owe me!", Look what happens with love like that, it lights up the sky."
Jalal ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273); Persian poet.
The fact that Valentines Day and Family Day have fallen on the same weekend has inspired me to…

I was discussing with a couple of colleagues recently about how we live in our own heads and how our perception of reality is actually very subjective and at times dead wrong. This discussion brought me to recall, somewhat painfully, how I learned about the subjectivity of what we believe to be real.
The first case wasn’t that painful; it was at a Coldplay concert with my daughter Kaitlin which was a great experience for several reasons but it did teach me that you…

Every now and then, I come across something that's really important; and I believe that this is one of those times and those things.
This week, I met up with an old friend. He and I go back about 15 years but he told me that he recently got together with his 6 university friends. He showed me pictures of them 30 years ago and from their last meeting a few weeks ago. It was interesting to see how they changed physically but what he found interesting is how their lives had changed. As…

Firstly, I want to wish everyone a Merry 2013 Christmas. This Christmas posting comes a little late since most of Ontario was plagued with an ice storm on December 21 this year and thusly, our power, TV and Internet went down. Fortunately our power came back about 8 hours later but Internet service remains out at the time of this writing on Christmas Day.
Okay so getting to the point, which as you may have recognized takes some time for me, I wanted to reminisce a little this…

This posting is about vision, and about intimacy and investing in family and DYI projects, but mostly, it’s about vision.
A little while ago, my brother and his wife were preparing to sell their family home after retiring and becoming empty nesters. He commented that while decluttering his home for the sale and impending move, the exercise was…

Here's a great quote that deserves reposting from Values.com. Its an excellent service that is focused on creating a more positive outlook - not sure what their business model is but a good site nonetheless.

While I’m a big believer in life outside of and after work, I do recognize that our careers consume a disproportionate amount of our time. For a lot of our life, it’s hard not to say that we are what we do for a living. So while it is wise for many reasons not to define…

Cool Meme... it is through out experience that we truly develop. Have a great day everyone. Cherish the moment and be aware beauty in every second.
If I am getting frustrated or have a tendency to react, it helps me to think "Why am I really feeling this way, what's behind it? Where is there some beauty in this moment and how can I focus and develop on that?…

One of our heros is celebrating a special day today. It's our daughter Kaitlin. She's pictured here in her first graduation from Kindergarden at St. Paul's in Sault Ste. Marie but she has had many more since then. Next was Grade 8 at Our Lady of Peace in Maple (north of Toronto), then St. Joan of Arc High School, also in Maple, then University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science then York with a Masters in Political Science.…

We have all heard the phrase “respect your elders”. However, along with relics like the rotary dial phone, VHS recorders and the hand written letter, that concept may be getting a little dated. In many, if not all cultures, the notion that “old folks” are a valued resource to young adults or to society in general is becoming little more than a polite gesture. Does…

As most of you know, I have passed the 50 year mark in my life. As such, my hair is greyer; my eyes are heavier, etc, etc. Yes, I'm getting older but I am also getting wiser, or at least, I am becoming more enlightened about life and I feel great about the opportunities in front of me as the years will unfold.
I do have to admit that when I pass by a mirror and catch a glimpse of myself, I'm not necessarily…

One of my favorite personal stories also happens to be one of my closest encounters with flying saucers and with some pretty significant Canadian heritage. The story begins about 25 years ago (around 1987) on a NordAir 737 flight somewhere over Lake Huron on a trip from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie where we were living at the time. I guess NordAir is a bit of Canadian heritage…

A few weeks ago, fellow Kamazooie member, Brad, posted a blog on preserving your financial legacy. At that time, I commented that I wanted to come back and talk more about the non-financial legacy so here comes that.
If you know me, or if you've read my blogs, you may have caught on that I'm a little preoccupied with legacy. Maybe its a fear of dying, or maybe it’s because I struggle with the dreaded "meaning of life". Maybe still, I've seen some great men and women and I aspire to do…

Diversity and inclusion have become more than just buzz words in today’s interconnected world. They are now core elements of any workplace. Nowhere is this more evident than in internship programs, where the next generation of professionals takes their first steps. By embracing diversity and inclusion, companies do not just offer a richer, more dynamic experience for interns. They fuel creativity, innovation, and the eventual path to…

You must have heard about the English proverb, “There is no place like home”. From this proverb, you can easily understand the importance of home in an individual’s life. It not only provides shelter but is also a storehouse of our memories. It is our duty to keep it in good condition. One way by which you can effectively offer protection to your house is house siding.
Now, what is house siding? It is a protective material which is used for covering the exterior side of the house in…

Although raising chickens seem like a fun filled activity, it has its own set of problems. Chickens are vulnerable to both predators and diseases. These diseases spread through pathogens and can have a devastating impact on the entire flock.
If you get in touch with live chicken suppliers, you can know more about chicken diseases and how you can keep chicken healthy because they have the adequate…
