I think it was one of the greatest artistic experiences I have ever had. I spent the majority of my life as an actor and a director in theater and film. Rehearsal has always been my favourite part. Although there is a wonderful satisfaction that comes with being in front of an audience and performing, I truly love the creative process and feel that once I am in front of an audience...well, at that point I am no longer creating.

I feel I was in constant creation writing this book. Not to say it was always a creative feeling as I did suffer that thing people call writer's block (then again I think sometimes maybe it was just my own laziness), but there were times I just couldn't write! But the process was much more rewarding than I ever could have thought it would be.

I know many established writers have their editors and agents that are following them through the process and I think that must be great—much like having an educated cheerleader. I wrote most of the book before I ever got an editor yet I would have to say I was so fortunate for who I did have: My wife—my loving partner, a woman who simply believes in me—was my muse. Every day she would come home from work and sit there and listen to what I wrote that day. (I think that was the actor in me as I didn't want her to read it first; I wanted to play it for her :)). You know, I have tried many many times to write—just write and complete something. But throughout my life, I started all gang busting—loved the idea...bursting with story lines—yet not once, never did I finish. So this was different—with her being my support, my audience—I had someone to share my journey with—someone who listened and guided me to finish something... Wow...I have this feeling of pride! Wow, I wrote a book!

Great post Jack!  Sounds very much like the "Behind every good man.. " adage. I think that sharing your creative process with others has definite benefits; it both gives you feedback on your work and drives you to continue because you gain commitment yourself by involving others.

I completely get that. Validation and involvement from people you love and respect. Afterall, that, at least in my mind, is what it's all about! Thanks for sharing!
