As an old school kind of guy, I  tend to forget that a virtually endless library of music is literally at our fingertips on youtube. When I was a young lad, music came in the form of AM radio (usually at night when the air inversion layer helped bounce signals from the northern US states) and listening to vinyl albums at friends houses...and subsequently saving up the cash required to buy the ones that caught your attention at Stedmans.

The other day I ran a search for an old Deep Purple song called "Rat Bat Blue" from the first album I ever purchased  "Who Do We Think We Are". It is an absolutely classic tune from arguably one of the most talented rock and roll bands ever.

I really enjoyed the stroll down memory lane and browsed through some of the old concert footage which is something that was a virtual impossibility back in Northern Ontario in the 70s when the original Deep Purple was at its best. Let's face it the original group of Gillan, Blackmore, Paice, Lord and Glover comprised the best version of that band. The same quintet went on to record a best-selling concert in Tokyo.

The second album I bought was Eagles "On the Border", which I believe was the group's debut record. It featured a bit more country/country rock influence than later albums due to the influence of Bernie Leydon who left the band shortly thereafter.

The third was Boston's self-titled debut album, which also featured some iconic artwork along with the first use of a 16 track recording process by band leader and guitarist Tom Sholz.

Next up was Toto's first undertaking...in hindsight I guess I was fortunate to experience the emergence of some relatively noteworthy bands.

To be honest I didn't buy many albums and the ones I did by I played the hell out of on the RCA Victrola that was in our rec room on Elgin St. in Chapleau. These bands were influential in the forming of my musical tastes and still bring back fond memories.

I am sure many of you had similar experiences from your younger days. With that I respectfully ask you to comment/leave the name of your first album(s) below.

For non-members that means signing up to Kamazooie but it is quick and painless and would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

Those are some great picks Lorne. I too was in love with Boston and was VERY SADDENED by the sudden loss of Brad Delp in 2007 just when they were planning a new tour. I had always thought that I would get a chance to see them live.

You've inspired me to through in one of my favoite picks and that would be Supertramp, Crime of the century. Many great songs on this one but to me its more of an entire album play.

Alan Parsons Project also was a facinating band with great production and great lyrics and music. While I loved them all, I found their treatment of Edgar Alan Poe's body of work literally facinating.

I would love to hear others share some of their great albums and influences.
