Taking in the Toronto Summer Music Festival

I have to admit that it felt strange to be taking in a concert on a "school" or "work" night! Anu and I drove downtown to catch a concert with guests from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, at the University of Toronto.

We did not quite make it in time to the restaurant where I had made reservations... if you have reservations then "traffic" magically knows about it and conspires to make you late. Fortunately, we did have enough time to sneak into a pub around the UofT campus, to grab some pizza just before the show. Sure it wasn't the fanciest start... but we made an impression by being the best dressed couple at the pub :-).

Fortunately, we were NOT late for the show itself. I can only describe it as breath-taking. The UofT Warner Hall location is right by the Museum. It has a very intimate theatre for performances. As a result the audience get's an amazing show, as the music resonates so beautifully, and you are steps away from the musicians (you can see every key stroke, expressions on their faces, and even the hand written notes on their music pages).

Shows this year ran from July 22nd to August 12th. Glad we found out about it before it was over.

If you like orchestral music at all - just to get peaceful and appreciate a moment of life... then try to catch a show next time around. I will be watching for them next year - and look forward to Toronto Summer Music Festival 2015 :-).

This summer has been a busy one but somehow they all seem to work out that way. However, now that I am aware, maybe we can try to take it in next year.  I'll put it in my calendar :-)
