Much of our time, energy and metal capacity is devoted to work but for many reasons, we also have to think about what do I do after work. For some, after work means chilling with friends at a patio bar, to others it means cycling from 6:00-9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and to others it means what you plan do after you retire.

Work is an important part of our lives and there are many resources available to those who want to promote their career or look for a new one. At Kamazooie, our major focus areas are non- professional. In this post, I just wanted to start a bit of a discussion to hear from our members their thoughts outside of the immediate needs of working for a living and raising a family. What are you doing that's just for yourself?  Here are some thought starters:

  • What is a hobby you like to spend your time on?
  • What skills are you trying to develop?
  • Are their any areas that you volunteer in that you would like to promote? (feel free to share and drum up support here :-)
  • If you had a totally free day, but you had to fill your time by doing something more productive than further developing your couch-potato skills, what would you choose to do?

I will start. I am considering a trip to Italy in the next couple of years so I'm learning Italian. I have a set of CDs burned on my iPod and I listen to them while at the gym or jogging. I must admit that I have to listen to each lesson several times but I'm starting to develop a decent vocabulary.

Please share with us what interests you and what would you like to spend more time on.

Good luck with developing your passion!

Hi Amanda, that's an excellent question. I'm on a day off today with my wife and that is something (spending time just the two of us) that I focus on. However, yes, just for me, that is a good question. I'm working on a post in this area that I will respond with soon.

Happy Friday and Weekend to everyone!!! :D

Not retired yet bud definitely taking more time for myself these days Amanda. I'm actually thinking about looking at Habitat for Humanity but not sure of the process. Your post reminds me that I should do some research. Cheers!!

Hey Amanda. I love marketing - but beyond my work and professional life... I have enjoyed photography, movies, investment / financial analysis (stock... not exciting for most, but interests me), reading (business books mostly), some tweeting, and cycling / walking / exercise.

As for volunteering, I have enjoyed giving back by teaching classes for Junior Achievement, running the Product Marketing & Management Association, writing the "Focus" Newsletter, and organizing a professional mentoring program for the TPMA. All these have been fun because of the connection and interaction with people - friends and colleagues (and the warm feeling of knowing you gave back to the community).

Great question - and thought provoking posting, Amanda! :-)
